Blog No. 7: A Man and His Car
If you'd met me, you'd know that I don't fall into the typical male stereotypes. I don't like sports. I don't look forward to the day where I can buy my first beer. I talk, I don't make cheezy pick up lines or pointless references to anything in my pants. But I discovered today that I do have an ounce of the male genome in me. There's nothing like the feeling I get after I cleaned the 2004 silver Chevy Malibu and say that "I have just cleaned my car."
I walked outside in the cold, dark night to clean my car's windshield. My mom complained about the window being smeared and foggy day after day. And I mean day after day. Sure I'm forgetful, but still. And I thought I was just taking the windex outside to spray and wipe the inside of the windshield, so I just walked outside without my jacket and shoes. After I wiped the inside of the window clean of any smudges, I thought I might as well do the outside. Then I noticed the windows were very filthy from bird droppings and decided to clean those. Then I saw some smudges on the inside of the backseat windows from when my aunt used the car to drop off and pick up her kids everyday, (why she doesn't use the bigger and fancier light blue Chrystler T&C I could never figure out...). Then I saw how there were water-stains on the seats, and not just the run of the mill stains, big ol' "Mommy! I have to go potty!" and "Hey! Don't spill my soda!" stains. I started using the Clorox brand wipes to scrub the water stains on the seats. In between the rug burns on my knuckles and my frost bitten feet, I grabbed the discarded tissues and the McDonald's straws into the paper bag.
21 used Clorox wipes, 18 wet paper towels, 2 frozen feet, and a bag full of garbage later, I decided to call it a night. But there is still work to be done on the car, like clean out the glove box, vacuum the rugs, and torch the stuff in the trunk with a flame thrower. Hopefully, that's a plan for Saturday before my Santa Cruz trip...
Oh yeah I'm going to Santa Cruz on Sunday! :D
